 Medicine
We have already helped lots of children but as the children live in such poor conditions it is far too easy for them to pick up new viruses and diseases and we will always need money aside for their health care. We are currently spending about £80 every month on the children's health. So if you can help then please do even if it's just a fraction of what we spend.

Milk A lot of the children are malnourished (in really bad cases they can suffer fron Rickets) so it is important to give a wide range of foods. Milk is also great as it provides Calcium which is good for bones and teeth. We try to ensure each child has at least one glass of milk every day they are here.

Birthday Parties
Most of the children who we work with do not celebrate their birthdays mainly because neither them or their parents know when they were born, many don't even know how old they are. For school they needed birthdates so guesstimates were made and their parents aknowledge this and their birthdays were worn (a little later than usual). Now the children have birthday we are celebrating them throughout the year. On their actual birthday we sing them happy birthday, but as there can be 8 per month we have one large party to celebrate those birthdays that month. At the parties they have presents, lots of games and cake.

We are currently renting the property and hope to raise enough money to buy it in the future. Up until then we are currently paying out around £100 per month for the rent of the building (7650 Rs/-)

HMS Illustrious - Mango House Water Tower (was the wall :os)
The sailors came but unfortunately the permission for the wall didn't so we had to put the sailors to work on another project. The water platform was the main profor the water tank. So the boys/girls were hard at it all day and made a good dint into the work. The finishing touches have been made today to finish the top and to put a concreate slam to strengthen

HMS Illustrious - The Mango House Roof - Finished By Rob and Ali
Several of the tiles on The Mango House roof have come away or been broken by the monkeys that run through the neighbourhood jumping on the roof and bounding into the trees to eat the fruit. They are beautiful to watch but do continually cause problems for the 100 year old house. We will need to buy a good quanity of tiles to replace the broken ones and recement them in place, we are hoping to fully replace the tiles on the porch as the last two years has seen it leaks getting worse and worse. More areas where the roof joins each other also need special attention so we can insure the interior of the mango house stay warm and dry.

Painting Activity Sheets
We provide craft and paint activities for the children every week day and to make everyone's life easier it's best to put down good quality sheeting for them to work on. This helps keep the floor and services clean and really helps on cleaning up afterwards especially when permanent markers and glue are involved,,,,

Children's Recycling Bins * 2
Some of the children can not attend school as their parents require them to work during the day to earn money for the family. We are oping to by pass this by providing recycling bins at the house so that any bottle (plastic/glass), metal (bottle tops, wire etc) and paper can be recycled by them. Visitors and volunteers to the Mango house are encouraged to bring suitable items for recycling. These will then be distributed directly to the children who require this service. If you spend a lot of time at a resturant or beach shack, perhaps they can collect bottle tops for you when you visit the house. Thank you to Whispering Palms, White Elephant and others who have already helped us with this appeal.
John Cordeauxl has donated £20 towards this item (25/04/2008)

Sorting Boxes * 10
During the tourist season we are very lucky to receive lots of clothes, toys, soap, shampoo and medical items. Quite often we don't get anything for weeks but sometimes everyone comes at once. To help sort these items we need seperate boxes for girls tops, bys tops, girls trousers, skirts, dresses, underwear, stationary, games etc so that the items can be sorted quickly and given out to the children at the earliest chance. Sorting clothes is a hard job (as any of our volunteers can tell you) so to help we want a collection of plastic containers so we can sort them as soon as they come in. We buy strong plastic containers to sort the items into, the more we get the better, although 10 would be a great start.
Cost for a pair : £5 - €8 - $10 - 400 Rs/- |

Swimming Lessons (Per Child)
We are encouraging the children to learn to swim as it is a great way to exercise and can also save your life. It is a sad fact that lots of people die off the coast of Goa, many of them Indians who get caught by the under currents in the area. If the children learn how to swim then hopefully this will never happen to them. 400 Rs/- covers the cost of the lessons, the travel to and from the swimming pool and also the purchase of a swimming cap. Normally we have enough swimming costumes so these come out of storage.
Cost Each : £5 - €8 - $10 - 400 Rs/- ( Donations From Last Two Months Shown ) |

Loft Storage System
Since renovating the house last year we have used the loft area to store extra clothes, toys, stationary and washing products that we have. We found that as everything was being stored in a very small space it was impossible to see exactly what we had and was impossible to find anything we were looking for. Therefore this monsoon we have totally re-vamped the loft area making it into a people friendly area that has stacking boxes stacked from top to bottom. All of the boxes are then named and when anything is needed a member of staff or volunteer can get it very easily.
Total Cost: £200.00 - €320.00 - $400.00 - 16000Rs/-

Lights and Electrician Costs for outside shelter.
The outside shelter is used every day but when the rain comes it can get very dark and the children struggle to see what they are doing. We decided to put lights in the shelter, this will not only help when the rains come but will also make it possible for us to use the shelter at night.
Total Each : £30.00 - €48.00 - $60.00 - 2400Rs/-

Photocopier (XEROX)
Now that the school is coming on in leaps and bounds we really need a photocopier to create resources for the children to use each day. We also go out and spend money on photocopying as many of the documents we have need duplicates making for the official process.

Cost : £875 - €1400 - $1750 - 70,000 Rs/-

Kitchen Shelving
Now that we have had to purchase more equippment for the house we found that we also needed extra shelves in the kitchen to store everything on. We have constructed 3 shelves so far so that we can store our pots, pans and cooking ingrediants. We hope to construct 3 more in the very near future.Trying to cook for 40 children can be very difficult when you do not have the correct equipment. Although we tried to equip the kitchen out last year, we have found that now we have children ion each day we need extra saucepans etc.
Re-added due to delay in donation
Cost : £28.75 - €46.00 - $57.50 - 2300Rs/-

Glass Tiles / Sky Lights
To make The Mango House that little bit brighter we are installing a few glass tiles which will let in the sun and decrease the need for lights while the sun is out. Last year there were several power cuts and the heavy rains make the house pitch black inside so a few glass tiles will also help let in enough light to keep the children from getting scared. These tiles cost around 50 Rs/- per tile. 50 tiles placed around the house will hopefully make the difference. After researching we found that the glass tiles cost £8 each, so we will install glass windows in the roof to reduce the cost.

Children's Garden Plot (Soil Required)
Although the success of the last garden plot was not great (the corn was eaten by cows, the potatoes eaten by bugs and just recently the pineapples stolen by monkeys. (I'm not joking!) We are trying to start a new garden patch at the side of the house. We have dug through and cleaned a large section of ground and hope to plant a few things this year. To start the plot of well we need a truck of soil to give the plants a better chance. Anyone who has seen the soil will understand this requirement.

Dolls House
One lucky girl from Goa was given a huge collection of Barbie toys while growing up, in January all the items were dropped off in plastic bags and boxes at The Mango House. After giving them a wash and seeing what we had it was decided it would be a great idea to make a dolls house for the children, this would solve the problem of storage and give the children a great toy to play with. Hopefully staff and volunteers will work together to make a 3 or 4 level dolls house for all the equipment the girl donated. A sheet of plywood, some paint and a lot of hard work should be all that is needed.
